Casagrande C6XP-2 used on TRU Project by BAM
Casagrande-C6XP-2

BAM UK & Ireland & BAM Richies

BAM UK & Ireland & BAM Richies are currently utilising their fleet of Casagrande C6XP-2 rigs on the Trans Pennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

This is a multi billion pound project of railway improvements that will upgrade rail journeys from York to Manchester. The upgrades will offer improved timetables along with more efficient rolling stock using electric trains.

The scope of works involves the mitigation of 61,000m2 of old mine workings along the route and for existing and new structures. As of the end of 2023 approximately 17Km of the line has been drilled.
Treatments are also being installed for new OHLE(over head line equipment) foundations. Follow on construction will take place of new platforms, canopies, station forecourts, a new flyover and a new viaduct over the River Calder.

The existing line will be widened and repositioned to enable expansion of the single line to two lines.

The C6XP-2 rigs are all utilising percussive heads and T38 drill rods with casing. Drilling depths are around the 15m mark. BAM are also using rod/casing manipulators on excavators to mitigate any manual handling problems. These rigs are the staple drill rigs for BAM due to its superb versatility in many of the drilling applications that they provide and it's capability has again been proven in meeting the challenges faced from working within existing railway infrastructure. would like to thank BAM for their continued trust in our products.

The Casagrande C6XP-2 is a true workhorse in the geotechnical drilling field and it continues to develop to keep up with the latest technologies and demands, with the next step being the Hybrid C6XP-2 on the horizon.
